Same Speed and Other Railways
This website exists solely to publish several articles I have written on railway matters, originally, most importantly on high speed railways. I am a fervent supporter of HS rail, but seriously concerned by what I believe to be potentially disastrous mistakes in the existing plans for HS2. I believe these problems to be the direct result of the total lack of any overall plan for the complete high speed network that we shall eventually need, and accordingly I offer my ideas of what such a network should look like. I do this in the hope of persuading the interested public and the relevant political decision makers that the existing plans could and must be very greatly improved, by taking a wider view of the requirements and possibilities. What I am not saying is that the existing plans are complete rubbish; they aren't, they're broadly good, even excellent, but there are certain aspects that are so seriously defective that, if implemented, they would wreck everything else, and vitiate all the otherwise good work.
As I have progressed the work, I have become aware that it is not concerned only with high speed, but applies to an underlying mathematical model or paradigm, the Same Speed Railway, and the results apply in principle to any speed range. I have therefor separated off the technical articles dealing with the Same Speed model into their own menu.
The various categories of article currently available are:
The Same Speed Model Separates off the technical articles ino their own menu.
High Speed Rail The fundamental, campaigning article arguing the necessity of developing an overall network plan for HS rail, and all the supporting articles describing the various routes and service plans. Also the theoretical article on Same Speed railways, which is the foundational technical article.
High Speed Rail Archive Preserves the state of the various HS articles prior to certain major changes.
Classic Rail Service Plans Proposed service plans for the classic routes associated with the new HS routes, providing the best possible coordination and interchange between HS and classic services.
Metro Systems London Considers aspects of London metro systems, crossrails and overgrounds.
Metro Systems Country Considers aspects of several metro systems outside London.
Classic Rail Services by Region Proposed service plans for the classic routes, arranged by region rather than by particular route..
Odds and Sods Contains articles which don't fit in any other category.
Abbreviations A common reference for all the abbreviations used in the articles. Please let me know if I've missed out any.
