Classic Routes' Post-High-Speed Service Plans
Each individual HS route is associated with one (possibly more than one) particular classic route. The fundamental justification of a new HS route is always to provide additional capacity to relieve a seriously overloaded classic route. (See the article 'Same Speed Railways', in particular the section 'When to Deploy HS Lines', for a detailed discussion of this.) When (a section of) the HS route opens, the services on the associated classic route change to the Regional Metro pattern - a mixture of regular-interval semi-fast and stopping services tightly integrated with each other and with the HS services. Thus a sequence of service plans comes into operation on the classic route, exactly synchronised with, dependent on and tightly integrated with those of the HS route. The following articles contain the service plans for a particular classic route, each being a companion article to the Route and Service Plans of the corresponding HS route. (The classic articles do not include routes since these exist already and very few significant extensions are proposed.)

This series of articles is still very much work in progress, and changes and additions are to be expected.
